NUTRITION COORDINATOR

Marquette County Department of Human Services has an opening for a full time Nutrition Coordinator in the Aging and Disability Services Unit.  This position performs assessments and provides nutritional counseling, oversees and supports meal sites, collaborates with kitchen staff on menu development, and provides training and outreach.   

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management or a related field, licensure as a registered dietician in the State of Wisconsin and six months experience working with elderly and/or disabled adults.  Successful completion of a state approved serving safe food training within six months of hire and maintenance of such certification required. Requires a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and access to insured transportation.  Applicants will be required to pass background checks.  Position to start on or after July 3, 2017.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection Agency (DATCP) is recruiting a   

Part Time Community Outreach Member

For the Marquette County Area School Districts   

Compensation: 

 AmeriCorps members will receive a modest living allowance, student loan deferment while serving, and an education award at the successful completion of service.  Limited reimbursement will be provided for travel to participating communities and training. 

 Scope:

This Farm-to-School program is part of a 3 county collaboration between Adams, Juneau and Marquette Counties.  This Community Outreach AmeriCorps member position will be stationed primarily in Marquette County, with limited responsibilities in Adams County. The position requires a minimum 300 hour commitment prior to August 14, 2017, or approximately 15-20 hours per week. Successful members may have the opportunity to renew for another year of service.   

The Community Outreach member will be responsible for connecting farmers with schools, working with school gardens, connecting with community members, and managing and recruiting volunteers.  Qualified candidates will have a passion for farm to school, enjoy connecting with community members, have good communication skills, and be able to work independently as well as in a team.

SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Aging and Disability Services Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating the elderly nutrition and home-delivered meal programs.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

The following duties are illustrative and the person holding this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. 

  1. Performs assessments to determine eligibility for homebound meal program.
  2. Provides nutritional counseling to both meal site and home delivered meal participants. 
  3. Collaborates with kitchen staff on the development of menus and approves menus following program requirements. 
  4. Makes referrals to, and coordinates with, other care providers to ensure that needs of participants in the program are met.
  5. Coordinates counts for dining sites and home delivered meals; notifies food transporters and volunteers; maintains computerized home delivered meal route sheets.
  6. Supervises site managers and provides oversight and support to meal sites.
  7. Provides training to nutrition program staff and volunteers.
  8. Performs administrative work related to the elderly nutrition program.  This includes but is not limited to creating and maintaining accurate records, data entry and producing timely and accurate reports.
  9. Performs public relations necessary to insure the public is informed about the elderly nutrition program and the benefits of participation.
  10. Evaluates the elderly nutrition program to insure there are no barriers to participation.
  11. Maintains an advisory council to ensure the program is meeting the needs of the community.
  12. Fills in as substitute for Nutrition Program staff as necessary.
  13. Attends all assigned meetings and trainings.
  14. Adheres to confidentiality standards.
  15. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management or a related field required.

  • Licensure as a registered dietician in the State of Wisconsin required.

  • Six months experience working with elderly and/or disabled adults required.

  • Successful completion of State approved Sanitation Certification (i.e. Serving Safe Food or other state approved sanitation training certification) within six months of hire and maintenance of such certification required.

  • Requires a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and own transportation.

  • Applicants must pass background checks

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing, including interviewing skills to direct clients to appropriate resources.

  • Ability to follow directions and complete projects in a timely manner.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
